The Artist

Born in Texas, I grew up during the 80s and 90s when video stores were everything. From the time I could hold a crayon I have drawn on anything that sat still long enough. As my grandpa says, “times were hard” and most of the art on our walls was mine. At 5 years old, that meant houses were dwarfed by cats, people had no torsos and the sun always rose in the upper left corner of the page. Eventually these "masterpieces" grew to incorporate my latest movie, tv and music obsessions.

In high school, I began to try different techniques and mediums mainly just to see if I could. In 1993, I saw Tombstone and fell in love with old west icons, or at least Val Kilmer’s depiction of one. So, I started drawing in a style befitting of that era: pencil and charcoal. I’d found my niche. Spring Break 1995, I saw Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight about 6 times and realized Billy Zane is beautiful. I had to draw him. Unbeknownst to me, this would cement my love for drawing horror.

Since then, my kinship with movies, particularly horror, has only grown. Nervous Pretzel is the culmination of that relationship. Sharing my drawings that were created by a pop culture nerd for pop culture nerds.
